Birthday Gifts for Wine Lovers
When it is someone’s birthday again and if you know that the person likes wine, or wants to learn more about wine then it becomes quite easy to find birthday gifts for wine lovers. You can make up birthday gift wine baskets or you can buy wine online from any one of the firms advertising on the internet, such as the Sunday Times Wine Club.
I’m a member of the Times wine club and they have some really good wines and offers – the drawback, if you can call it that, is that you usually have to buy a minimum of 6 bottles. Now that can work in your favour as the Sunday Times Wine club allows you to buy some rather good mixed cases and their end of season cases and mystery cases are very good value, if you want 12 bottles.
You’ll probably find that most buy wine online clubs sell by the case or half case, but that does not really need to be an issue – you can parcel up a case as 3 lots of 4 bottles or whatever and give as presents to different people, or the same person on different occasions, eg birthday and christmas, as the wines will keep. Or you can drink some yourself.
Being a member of wine clubs can be a very good way of experiencing new wines, especially if you buy the mixed cases. This is because you get wines that are not available generally in supermarkets and you get wines that generally you would not buy yourself. Once you’ve tasted the new wine (you usually get a couple of bottles of each wine) you can decide to buy six of the sameone for later, and give one or two as a present, because if you liked it there is a good chance that someone else will like it.
Also remember that mixed cases will include red and white wine, and sometimes rosé. Now a lot of people say they don’t like red, or white, but go out on a limb, try the wines you think you don’t like – the right food also really lifts a wine.
